About Us

Phyllis Recca at her sewing machineBrandywine Basics was founded by Phyllis Recca in 2014 after retiring from a 40 year career in the computer industry. Learning to sew in high school, she made her own clothes until she was 25 years old. Her love for sewing generated the idea to try hand made crafts and she brought up her sewing machine from the basement storage. The 30+ year old Singer Stylist still worked like a charm.

Hand-crafted ItemsHer first project was hand sewn pincushion pumpkins. These 3 inch mini-pumpkins were more whimsical with twigs as stems and a variety of adornments such as beads, buttons, leaves and pieces of artificial flowers. Larger pumpkins were added to the assortment and then tissue box covers and fabric trees. Phyllis hand makes all her creations and designs them to fit into both simple and elegant homes.

In addition to her hand crafting hobby, she serves as President of The Phyllis Recca Foundation, a non-profit founded by her in 2000 which focuses on children's health and education. She lives in Kennett Square, PA with her husband Gene Pisasale, their three cats (Frankie, Francis and Momcat) and two parakeets.
